BLOG 7-17

After playing poorly in the John Deere Monday Qualifier, I focused my attention towards the Bos Landen Open in Pella, IA.  I drove out to Pella late Wednesday afternoon and played nine holes Wednesday night and got in a full practice round in on Thursday before the tournament began on Friday.  While in Central Iowa I was able to spend some time with Ryan Johnson, my college roommate, and his family who live in the Des Moines Area.  They gave me a place to stay while playing in Pella, and made sure I had everything I needed.

The first two days went very well with Ryan caddying on Friday and his brother Troy caddying on Saturday.  I played solid golf both days and was pleased with my play heading into the final round on Sunday.  Sunday I got off to a good start but closed the tournament out with a back nine score of 40 to shoot 75 and place tied for 5th.  Although I felt as though I played better than I scored the final round I was still pleased with keeping things together and hanging in there to make a birdie on the last hole to work my way back up the leaderboard.  I would like to say congrats and thanks to Bos Landen on a well run tournament.  The course was in fantastic condition and the staff did a great job.

After the round I drove back to Des Moines, and pack up the car and headed for Milwaukee, WI to try to qualify for the US Bank Championship this week.  I got into Milwaukee around 1:00 am and got some sleep before trying my luck in the Monday Qualifier.  Monday was rough and I never got things going after some early mistakes in my round.  Now I'm looking ahead to this weekend where I will play in the Waterloo Open in Waterloo, IA for the chance to win $30,000.

I would like to thank Ryan and his family for their support and hospitality.  Thanks to Nate, and Brian Lammi up in Milwaukee for taking care of everything while I was in Milwaukee for 24 hours.  I am always grateful for the support group that I have around me, and their positive words on encouragement.  Check in this weekend for Waterloo Open results or check out the Waterloo Open Website at www.waterlooopen.com

Blog 6-6

Things are moving along fairly quickly here in the Quad Cities.  Everything at DCC is good, we just began our Jr. Golf Program which starts with a week long junior camp for ages 6-17.  It's hard to believe that we are already in the month of June and I'm sure before I know it July with have come and gone.  Last Friday, St. Ambrose tried to have their annual Golf Outing at the Arsenal Golf Club, but unfortunately tornado warnings and thunderstorms ripped through the Q.C. Area and the golf course was unplayable due to all the rain.  It was still fun to catch up with all the Ambrose people involved with the outing, that outing has become an event that I look forward to every year.  On Saturday, after an early morning round of golf with some friends I went into Chicago to catch the Cubs game on Sunday.  The Cubs won and it was a nice break from golf for a couple days.
Tuesday was the Illinois Open Qualifier at White Deer GC in Vernon Hills.  The Illinois Open is a tournament I have qualified for the last couple of years and has always been one of the primary events on my schedule.  After shooting two-under 34 on the front, I made a two bogies to slip back to even with five holes to play.  I knew I was playing well, and just tried to keep hitting greens and taking advantage of good opportunities coming down the stretch.  After finishing with a birdie on the par 5, 17th hole I felt like I was in good shape to qualify.  It felt good to play a solid round of golf where the only thing missing for a great round was a handful of putts.

Greetings All.  Today we finally got some much needed rain in the Quad Cities, which gives me a chance to reflect and assess my progress over the last month.  I have been working hard on my game since leaving Florida and was hoping to qualify for a few events the last couple of weeks.  Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful at qualifying for both the Hooters event in Pittsburgh, and the Local US Open Qualifier at DCC shooting 76, 75 respectively.  Both rounds were solid rounds plagued with untimely mistakes in the last 5 holes.

I am however, very pleased with the progress I am making on my game especially my full swing.  Over the winter I felt my swing get a bit long and loose and over the last month I have been working on shortening the swing up and just getting everything a bit tighter.  I have finally got back to solid ball striking golf rounds and more consistent results.  I am disappointed that I was unable to let my progress show on the golf course these past two weeks, but do believe that with another tournament comes another opportunity.

I do want to thank Jason McGrane, an old teammate from SAU, and his girlfriend Sheila for providing me with a place to stay while I was in Pittsburgh.  Jason was my caddie for the qualifier out in PA, and I was glad to have him out on the course with me.  Having friends across the country who are willing to put me up for a week or two is something I am extremely grateful for.  Not only do I get to spend time with some old friends but it also cuts down on my expense which is always a big help.

Next on the schedule is the LaSalle Bank Open Qualifier, a Nationwide Tour Event, in Chicago the week after Memorial Day.

Its good to be back in the Midwest.  Last week I packed up my car and headed north to start working at Davenport Country Club and re-group before playing in some tournaments in May.

Overall I am pleased with the way things went throughout the winter.  I didn't play as well as I had hoped to play but I showed signs of improvement and really feel like this summer could be a good summer.  I am excited to be back at Davenport C.C. for the summer to help out with the junior clinics and also help out where needed.

I would like to thank Kate and Greg for allowing me to invade their home for the winter.  Not only do they provide me with a place to live throughout the winter, but they also housed the many visitors that I had while staying with them.  I'm sure at times it felt like they were running a bed and breakfast.  They never once made me feel like I was intruding, and always were there to remind me to keep my head up.  I am very grateful for their help over the last two winters.  So, Greg, Kate, and Elizabeth, thank you for letting me be a part of your everyday lives for the winter.

My next event is a Hooters event out in Midway, PA the week of May 7th, following that event will be the US Open Local Qualifier hosted at Davenport C.C. on May 14th.  So until then I will be working on my game out at D.C.C. and preparing for a good summer.

Well the Hooters winter season has come to an early end after missing the cut in the Tour Championship.  This week was a rough week that really left me with not much to say other than, some weeks you got it, other weeks you don't.  In the two rounds at Black Bear, a  P.B. Dye course, I was only able to make two birdies in 36 holes which was clearly not enough birdies to even make the cut had I made 34 pars.  The cut ended up being 3 under par, one of the lowest of the season.

Although the season has come to an end on a low note I feel there are many positives to take from these last four months in Florida.  This winter I played 9 events on the tour only making the cut in two events.  However, taking advantage when you are playing well is something that I have learned you must do at this level.  This season was more profitable than my first winter in Orlando even though my first season included more cuts made.  The highlight of 2007 so far would have to be playing in the final group in the Hooters event at Rio Pinar C.C.  With a final round 72 I managed to finish T-4 and earn the biggest paycheck of my short career.

With another season behind me I am looking forward to playing into the summer on a variety of tours.  I will be finalizing my summer schedule in the upcoming weeks and will post that on the website shortly.  I will stay down south until Easter and play in Moonlight Events and a few Hooters (summer tour) events.  Thanks for all the notes of encouragement throughout the season, I am blessed to have the support group that I have behind me.  Keep checking  back for updates and results until Easter.

Now that I got a paycheck under my belt in 2007 I am hoping there will be many more to come in the next few months.  Last week I had a lot of fun on the golf course, after two rounds of 70-71 I was happy with my play and felt good going into a final round.  The final round was delayed one hour due to rain, but once the maintenance crew took care of the greens we were ready to tee it up.

We played the first 3 or 4 holes in a cold, constant rain, which reminded me of some of the weather from my college days.  Once the rain stopped a strong wind started to blow out of the north.  I hung around at two over par thru the first 11 holes but failed to get some shots up and down and then made a double bogie on my 14th hole.  I finished strong playing the last four one under and was happy to be taking home a paycheck for Demory Golf.

This week we are playing West Orange C.C. out near Windermere, FL.  I have good memories from West Orange, the Tour Championship was there last year and in the final round I shot the daily low of 66 to make a good finish before I came back home for the summer.  This week I hope to play some solid golf to make back-to-back cuts, something I haven't done since this summer at the Illinois Open, and the Q.C. Open.

Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years.  Being home this year was extra special because I got to spend some time with my family in its entirety, which doesn't happen all the much for us anymore.

My Brother John whose now stationed in St. Louis made the drive up and my Sisters, Kate and Andrea, both came back to Sterling with their respective families.  In between spending time with them and my girlfriend, Ali's family I had a little time to relax and regroup for 2007.

I have now made the trek back down to Orlando, and I am getting ready to  get back on the links for the next six weeks.  The second half of the Winter Series is going to be quite a whirlwind.  This year they have scheduled the final six tournaments in six straight weeks, starting this upcoming week at Forest Lake GC.  I am looking forward to having no time off and I am hoping this could be a good thing where I can play some good golf and keep it going for a little bit.

I would like to thank all of you for your support, while I didn't get to see everyone I wanted to while home for the holidays, it was nice to see those that I did.  I hope this year brings good things to Demory Golf in 2007.  Anyone interested in "joining the team" please let me know, I will get you the corresponding information.

11/14 - This week the NGA Hooters Tour stopped in Poinciana, FL at Stonegate at Solivita, a new course to the Winter Tour this year.  I played a practice round on Sunday and liked the course for a few reasons and was excited to play there this week.  The practice round went well and for not knowing which directions some holes went off the tee I was pleased with my solid round of golf.

Stonegate is a new course that is built inside a gated community with 36 holes on the inside.  There is no driving range at the course and the head pro told me that if I wanted to get in a good practice session before my round that I should hit balls at one of the surrounding courses.  He gave me directions to two different courses and I drove by one of them on the way home from my practice round.

Before my round I hit balls at a neighboring course about 12 mi. down the road from Stonegate.  I got in my car at 12:20 and headed for the course which was a 20min. drive, I timed it the day of the practice round.  Traffic was heavy and to make matters worse for 5 minutes I got stuck behind a delivery truck that wasn’t being granted access into the community.  I got to the first tee at 1:06, 6 minutes and 32 seconds after my scheduled tee time.  On the Hooters Tour if you are 5 minutes or more, late to your tee time you are disqualified.  This is the first time I have ever been DQ’d and it is not something that I want to ever happen again.

It has been a very disappointing and frustrating start to the winter season.  When Scott, the tournament director, told me I was disqualified from the tournament, I can easily say I have never felt worse in a long, long time.  I want all my current shareholders to know that the last three tournaments were paid for with money that I had saved up over the summer and any earnings made were going back to Demory Golf.  Thanks for all the support and I am looking forward to spending time with my mom, who is going to be coming down for Thanksgiving in a week.

11-10 The first two weeks on tour have been a little bit of a struggle.  Week one was a pair of rollercoaster rounds with several double bogies to complicate the week.  In hopes of solving that problem I focused on grooving my swing for week two.  I felt confident that my hard work over the week would show and really believed that week two at LPGA International could be a good one.

However, week two wasn't meant to be, and I struggled with executing my shots both days.  Many times when a straight ball or draw would keep the ball in good shape, I hit the opposite, a fade to find trouble.  It was a very disappointing and trying week that I will learn from and soon forget.

Thank you to all of those who offered their words of encouragement over the rough start.  I am so grateful for all the support that I get from back home.  Next week the Tour will stop in Poinciana, FL a course that wasn't on the schedule last year.  I am looking forward to another opportunity to play and compete another week.

10-26 - As fall comes to an end it is now time for my second trip down to Orlando, FL for the winter.  It has been a very productive and event-filled summer in the Quad Cities.  The summer was filled with many working hours between the Davenport Olive Garden, and The Davenport Country Club.  I found time here and there to stay sharp on my game and really work on getting a more consistent short game out on the DCC practice facility.

Throughout the summer I played in a handful of events, some went well, others went not so well.  The summer started off slow with a close call at the South Bend, IN Hooters Event in May, just coming a few strokes short of the cut.  Then followed a handful of Monday qualifiers where solid play was just not enough.  With only a few events and hardly any more funds left in the L.L.C. bank account, I knew my chances were coming to an end.

The 2006 Illinois Open was a tournament I had my eye on since the start of the year.  The Glen Club in Chicago is a course that I felt set up nicely for my game and I was anxious to play against the best in the state.  Unfortunately, it was a rough week that finished with a disappointing tie for 33rd place.  I drove back to the Quad Cities on Wednesday, August 2nd, and prepared myself to play in the Second Annual Quad City Open on Friday, August 4th, at Glynn’s Creek Golf Course.  With everything that had happened the three days prior behind me I grinded out an opening two rounds of 72-71 and advanced to the final round, 10 strokes out of first and 6 strokes out of third.  In the third and final round I opened with a 7 under 29 on the front nine, and played the back nine, bogey free to shoot a 64 to jump from 15th to 3rd place and earn a paycheck of $1,300.  It was a nice end to the long summer season.

I would like to thank all of the members, and staff at The Davenport Country Club.  Working and playing there was a valuable experience that has made me a better player.  Also, thank you to all of my current shareholders who have made it possible for me to play golf at the professional level.  I look forward to another year of competitive golf with a great support team behind me.
